Eddie's concert feedback Writtle 22/09

Dear All

Many congratulations on your superb performance last evening. I was thrilled with how you sang and it was so good to hear Sue playing so wonderfully in her own right!

I had so many excellent comments from any number of audience members. The one that pleased me most was that we are an amazingly musical choir!!

Well done and thanks for an evening that demonstrated all your commitment and hard work. Thanks to Mike, Steve, Alan and all of you who collected, erected and dismantled the staging and as ever to Sue; also to those of you who took solo parts and yet blended in with the rest of the choristers for the programme as a whole.
The organisers were delighted.
See you on Tuesday

Regards
Eddie

Eddie's notes w/c 18th Sept

Dear all

What a fantastic rehearsal yesterday evening - I knew that you were concert ready before I went away but I was quite blown away by your delivery right across the board. It's going to be a stunning concert on Saturday - all down to your hard work and commitment.

Approach the concert with real confidence and enjoy - though don't get too relaxed and complacent - we need to keep focused.

'Take my hand needs' some attention with regard to words and you will each know the pieces you need to look at before Saturday.

We need to meet at Writtle Church at 18.00 to finalise seating and have a short run through to test the acoustics and balance with the organ. The church centre will be open for any wives, friends and guests who need to arrive with you - there are pubs very close by as well. I recognise that short rehearsals before a concert are a bit of a pain but they pay dividends in familiarising ourselves with the building and acoustics - particularly those choristers with solos. I'm grateful to you for your commitment to this as in all things.

Concert dress will be dinner jackets, dress trousers, white dress shirts with a turned down collar, red bow ties and handkerchiefs, black socks and shiny black shoes. Folders to be used with Sloop Johnn B - only!

The programme for the October Concert is:

Rhythm of Life

Guardian Angel

Amor Ti Vieta

I Dreamed a Dream

Sloop John B

O Isis and Osiris

The Impossible Dream

1st World War Medley

Joint items - Bui Doi and American Trilogy

Next week please bring the bundle of Christmas music - we shall make a start of some of it. Have a look at Hallelujah Chorus please if you can.

Looking forward to Saturday and yet another fantastic performance.

Best wishes

Eddie

Sue's Notes. W/C 11-9

Firstly, thank you for such an enjoyable rehearsal on Tuesday. I didn't even have to use the whips to keep you in order!.

Please listen carefully to the recording and focus on those one or two parts that we worked on during your rehearsing at home this week. It is also clear as to which songs still need a little work with lyrics.

For Dave - here is a link with suggestions of sounds with different intervals:

Next week we are rehearsing the whole programme in readiness for our concert in Writtle.

Thank you again for all your hard work on Tuesday.

Dear All

Another great rehearsal yesterday. It’s so important to keep focused during each piece remembering the elements that we’ve finessed. The attention to detail and ensuring that we are singing together is what lifts a good performance to an outstanding one. When everyone is alert and focused on each piece rather than coasting from memory is how you produce outstanding concerts time and again - but it does need your work and effort - so thank you for that.

As I said last night I’m away next Tuesday but back for the 18th. Next week Sue will work with you on:

Amor Ti Vieta
Gwahoddiad
Isis and Osiris
Sloop John B
Rhythm of Life - as we’re short of second tenors Paul Haggar who is coming to play the organ at Writtle will play the primo part so Nathan can sing
Electricity
Bring him home
Guardian Angel

Have a great couple of weeks and a good rehearsal and I look forward to being with on the 18th when we’ll go through the whole concert programme.

Regards

Eddie

Dear All

Really great rehearsal on Tuesday evening - well done for all your hard work. You're producing such good performances of the pieces. You did so well on dealing with the slight pitch and tuning issues - it really is a matter of awareness and making sure that at all times you're thinking over and above the notes. Sue's accompaniment is there as a guide and support - pay attention to it throughout every piece as a constant check of the pitch you're singing at.

Next week we will work on:

Sloop John B

YNWA

Bui Doi

Take my hand

Working Man

The Impossible Dream

I Dreamed a Dream

Do you hear the people sing?

Have a good week.

Eddie

Sloop John B - with copies

I've prepared the first draft of the sweating plan which Steve has sent out. Please check and let me know if you need to be added or taken-off it.
